Google Play Purchase History: How to Find Your Old Purchases
Your Google Play purchase history exists, and it goes back to your first order. The problem is not that Google hides it — it's that the official interface was designed for recent receipts, not for answering "what did I buy in 2017?".
The official method
Google Play keeps a record of your orders inside the Play Store app itself:
Top-right corner of the app.
This section groups payment methods, subscriptions, budget and history.
You land on your order history: each transaction with its date and amount.
On the web, the equivalent lives under your Play account pages, as an order history list. Same data, same idea: a chronological feed of transactions.
For a refund question or a charge from last month, this works fine. It was built for that.
Where the official history falls short
The interface shows orders one screen at a time, newest first. That's it. Concretely, there is:
- No search box. You can't type an app name and jump to the matching order.
- No date navigation. No "go to 2018". You scroll, and the list loads more as you go.
- No totals. Nothing tells you what you spent this year, or ever.
- No export button. The history stays inside the interface.
If you've had the same Google account for ten years, that's a lot of scrolling. People regularly report giving up before reaching the era they were looking for — not because the data is gone, but because the path to it is tedious.
Reaching older history
Two things are worth knowing about old purchases:
Your purchases are tied to your Google account, not your phone. Changing devices doesn't erase the history — everything since you created the account is, in principle, still attached to it.
Old records are increasingly awkward to surface. The interface prioritises recent activity, and some records from years ago can be genuinely difficult to find through it. The purchase may still exist on your account while being practically unreachable by scrolling.
This is why the advice you'll find in Google's own support communities, when someone asks how to see or download older purchases, almost always converges on the same answer: use Google Takeout.
Takeout: the same data, as files
Google Takeout lets you export the data Google holds about you, service by service. The Google Play Store export typically includes files such as Purchase History.json (your purchases with dates) and Order History.json (amounts and transaction details) — the same activity the interface shows, but as raw data you can keep, search and process yourself.

FAQ
How far back does Google Play purchase history go?
The in-app order history generally covers your whole account, but you reach old entries only by scrolling. There is no search and no date jump, so purchases from many years ago are impractical to find there. A Google Takeout export is the practical route for older history.
Does the Play Store show everything I ever bought?
It shows orders, but the interface is built for recent activity. Entries exist for old purchases, yet finding a specific one means scrolling through years of orders. Some records can also be difficult to surface in the current interface.
Is my purchase history the same as my order history?
In the Play interface, Budget & history shows your orders — individual transactions with amounts. Google Takeout splits this into files such as Purchase History (items and dates) and Order History (amounts, payment and refund details). Together they describe the same activity from two angles.
